Methodology

In the actual assessment of household food security status, key indicators have been identified, including land tenure and access to food, purchasing power, health and quality of food, community participation and sustainability of agricultural practices.

The existing status of household food security is assessed based on the respondent's perception of the sufficiency of regularly consumed food items, which are grouped as staples, vegetables and meat. Households were categorized into four sub-groups corresponding to varying levels of food security.

The Food Secure are households that reported sufficiency in all food groups (i.e., staples, vegetables, meats). The ?Moderately Food Secure? households are sufficient in at least one food item from each food group, even if other insufficiencies in food items were identified. The ?Food Insecure? are insufficient in all food items in one of the three food groups.

The Highly Food Insecure are insufficient in all food items in two or three food groups. Percentage and correlation analyses were done to assess major trends and the relationship among factors affecting household food security.
