During
the workshop, participants from JPN, the PJP and others agreed to work on:
a) establishing the abovementioned Fund from donations from individuals,
businesses and CSOs in both countries; b) promoting civil society
participation in the implementation of Japan?s Country Assistance Program
for the Philippines; and c) sharing information and resources among NGOs
from both countries; and d) the 3rd Philippines-Japan NGO
Symposium in the Philippines in late 2009 or in 2010.
Working
group discussions revolved around six themes ? children, education, health,
overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), indigenous peoples (IPs), agriculture and
peace in Mindanao. Don participated in the agriculture group, while Faina
and Fr. Francis were in the peace group. Each thematic group came up with a
list of recommendations, the follow-ups of which it is responsible for.
ANGOC is a
member of the PJP, which is an informal network of 18 NGOs/NGO networks and
several individuals fostering friendship and networking among Philippine and
Japanese NGOs and advocating Japanese ODA reform in the Philippines.
