As Capability-Builder

To respond to the growing demands of the NGO sector, ANGOC continually designs and implements strategic interventions to enhance their efficiency and effectiveness in regional development. ANGOC organizes specialized courses, conferences and activities, in coordination with training institutions.

Some of the activities organized by ANGOC include:

  • Asian Study Tour for Development Practitioners (1985-1993)

ANGOC organizes an annual study tour program for Asian NGO senior and middle-level personnel to enable them to learn techniques and strategies in their chosen field of work. A total of 40 NGO practitioners have participated in this program on various themes: community-based resource management, forest resource management, highlands agriculture and settlement, the coconut industry and small-scale fisheries.

  • Alternative Financing Workshops for NGOs (1989-1992)

A series of country workshops were conducted on the different strategies for generating funds for NGOs giving emphasis on non-donor based financing. These workshops were conducted with (IRED), a global network of individuals and institutions.

  • Strategic Networking Regional Workshop for Sustainable Development and Environmental Action (1990)

The workshop examined issue-oriented networking efforts by NGOs on major policy advocacy and education agendas relating to sustainable development. The workshop surfaced principles and working strategies that bring about national and local policy changes in government and established local institutions.

  • Strategy and Reflection Sessions

ANGOC conducts a number of these activities to strengthen the voluntary sector in the different Asian countries. A key national/regional activity has been its hosting of an annual Asian Development Forum on key development themes.
