The Asian Development Forum (ADF) Series

A five-year annual activity that took place from 1992 to 1996, the Asian

Development Forum served as the Asian Grassroots Voice to the

international community and a starting point for South/South and South/North

dialogue. "Food and Freedom, Jobs and Justice, Land and Labour: Towards an

Asian Development Agenda for the Year 2000" is the overall theme of the

five-year Forum, with specific themes chosen each year to highlight critical

development issues that take into account community realities and the

emerging challenges of globalization.

These forms have involved nearly a thousand NGOs in ten Asian countries,

gathered in a process of dialogue, reflection and planning. The ADF has

evolved as more than a mere annual event; it also served as the venue for

Asian NGOs to reassess their responses to the rapidly shifting socio-political

and economic environment of the region.
